A New Beginning in Colegiales

We finally moved into our new apartment this past weekend. This apartment was one of the first one we visited. The only thing that really made us take our time deciding about whether or not we should take it was the price and the location. We are paying just over what we would have wanted to pay per month but in the end we realize that we would be happier living in a nicer apartment but saving just a little less each month. The location too was tricky at first. The apartment is in Colegiales, which is a barrio that many people have never really heard of(well expats at least, portenos are staying it is becoming a desired neighborhood to live in). Our first visit to this neighborhood we did not like very much, maybe due to the gloomy weather. It was probably because we were used to living right the major commercial avenue. Colegiales is more of a residential neighborhood squeezed in between Palermo Hollywood and Belgrano. After being here only a few days we already realize how much more we like this barrio than Barrio Norte, where we were living. Our street is just one block from the main avenue which has everything we could need. The streets are full of the low level apartments and Penthouses, the type of charming Argentine architecture I have fallen in love with. It is so weird to have it be completely quiet at night, no sounds of buses, cars, and people. Also a good thing about not living where all of the other expats live is that the cost of living, even though just 4 subte stops away, is noticeably cheaper. For example, I will join a gym that is 2 blocks away which will cost 90 p/month($22), whereas the cheapest gym I could find near my old apartment was 130 p/month ($35).
Here are two links that I could find about Colegiales:

Below are some pictures I have been meaning to put on the blog. For the past week at our old apartment our WIFI was down. Of course there was no way we were going to get it fixed in a week so we just dealt with it. We have met some people who wait literally weeks to have someone come fix an internet connection. Customer service is waaaayyyy better in the US!

El Ateneo: A HUGE bookstore that used to be a theater. There are English books here but they are pretty expensive!
